In most cases, your pet should be at least six months of age. If your pet is showing signs of aggression, or behavioural problems prior to six months, desexing can be performed earlier. Your vet is the best person to advise you on this.

What age do I get my puppy or kitten vaccinated?

Vaccinations are given at 12 and 16 weeks, with annual vaccinations administered after this age. Desexing is normally done at 6 months.

What should I be feeding my puppy or kitten?

Puppies and kittens should be on specially designed puppy or kitten food from recommended brands such as Hills Pet Nutrition, Royal Canin or Advance, until 12 months of age. This ensures their dietary needs are met. After this age they generally transition to adult food.

Depending on the breed, your pet may need to continue on a puppy or kitten diet for a little longer, or may require special dietary needs. Your vet is the best person to discuss this with.
